Dermaplaning

Smooth, Luminous Skin Exfoliation

Dermaplaning uses a sterile surgical blade to gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells and vellus hair (peach fuzz), revealing instantly smoother, brighter skin with improved product absorption.

Dermaplaning is one of the most immediately satisfying treatments we offer. Using a sterile surgical scalpel held at a precise 45-degree angle, our skilled providers gently scrape away the outermost layer of dead skin cells and vellus hair — leaving your skin noticeably smoother, brighter, and more luminous from the moment you leave your appointment.

What Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a physical exfoliation technique that uses a sterile, single-use surgical blade to manually remove the stratum corneum — the outermost layer of dead skin cells — along with vellus hair (the fine, soft hair commonly called peach fuzz). Unlike chemical exfoliation, dermaplaning provides immediate, visible results with no downtime.

The procedure is performed by a trained aesthetic professional who holds the blade at a precise 45-degree angle and uses short, feathering strokes to gently remove the surface layer of skin. The sensation is often described as a gentle scraping — not uncomfortable, and for many clients, quite satisfying.

The Benefits of Removing Vellus Hair

Many clients are initially surprised to learn that removing vellus hair is one of the key benefits of dermaplaning. Vellus hair can trap oil, dead skin cells, and environmental debris, contributing to dullness and congestion. Removing it reveals the smooth, luminous skin beneath.

Contrary to a common myth, vellus hair does not grow back thicker or darker after dermaplaning. Vellus hair is genetically determined to be fine and light; it cannot be changed by shaving or dermaplaning. It grows back at the same texture and color as before.

Dermaplaning + Facial Combination

Dermaplaning is most powerful when combined with a facial treatment. By removing the barrier of dead skin cells and vellus hair before applying active ingredients, we dramatically increase the penetration and effectiveness of serums, masks, and treatments.

At iGlow Vegas, we offer dermaplaning as a standalone treatment or as an add-on to our signature facial, HydraFacial, or chemical peel. The combination of dermaplaning followed by a chemical peel is particularly effective for addressing hyperpigmentation, uneven texture, and dullness.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Dermaplaning is suitable for most adults, including those with sensitive skin. It is not recommended for clients with active acne, rosacea flare-ups, or very thin skin. It is safe during pregnancy (unlike chemical peels and some laser treatments). Clients with significant facial hair (terminal hair) are not candidates for dermaplaning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my hair grow back thicker after dermaplaning?

+

No. This is a common myth. Vellus hair (peach fuzz) is genetically determined to be fine and light. Dermaplaning does not change the hair follicle, so hair grows back at the same texture and color as before.

Is there any downtime?

+

No. Dermaplaning has no downtime. Your skin may appear slightly pink immediately after treatment, which resolves within a few hours. You can apply makeup and resume normal activities immediately.

How often should I get dermaplaning?

+

Every 4–6 weeks, aligned with the skin's natural renewal cycle.
